Among one of Nike’s closest partners, CLOT has used many a sneaker collaboration to celebrate and explore their cultural roots. For example, charts common to the field of foot reflexology dressed their Air Max 1; the feel of the Terracotta Warriors was emulated by way of their Air Jordan 14 Low; and regal, silken garbs outfitted most of their Air Force 1s. And now, for 2022, Edison Chen and his beloved label are setting their sights on the Air Jordan 5 Low, accessorizing the shoe with a series of glowing jade accents.

For the uninformed, jade is considered precious in China, prized as it represents beauty, protection, power, and eternity. The artistry and technique are worth mentioning as well, as it takes a lifetime to master the skills necessary to create beautiful jewelry. In the label’s eyes, this “resilience and passion” are not unlike the qualities of Michael Jordan, whose play on the court is an art form in and of itself.

The Jade 5 Low

The CLOT x Air Jordan 5 Low, dubbed the “Jade 5 Low,” is a tribute to both symbols, honoring the legacies of the East as well as the West. Its construction — which features a black satin upper, reflective tongue, and jade-inspired accents — draws inspiration from traditional attire, on which the luxe stone would ornament simpler garb. Red laces and branding complement the green-colored fixtures, such as the netting and lace toggle, nodding to how these auspicious adornments would be worn in the past.
